Our Wedding
Photographer Ian Quashy
We met in Mile End New Testament Church of God I was talking to Dave about a project I was working on at the time.
I hadn’t seen him for a while then one day I was singing in worship team and God clearly spoke to me and said ‘That’s your husband’ at the time I was surprised because I never looked at Dave like that and his name would never have come to mind.
I ignored this until one week later I was at the Gem’s (see photo of us dress in black) and he put his arm round me for a photo I remember at the time they were calling him for an interview and he told them to wait while he had his photo taken with me. The next day he sent me the email of the photo and called me 3 times.
As we talked he asked me if I knew anyone who could be his assistant at Choice FM. Little did he know that I had 10 years radio experience under my belt. He was really pleased when I offered to help and from then on became his new assistant.
God had shown me 2 years previously that I would be helping out Dave at the station but I’d forgotten.
So I got up at 4 am every Sunday morning to go to Choice FM to help out. We were seeing each other every week and would go for breakfast after show. He took me to GCAP Radio Christmas Party as we had a lovely evening. There was a definite attraction but neither of us took any notice as it was early days.
He would ring every day and we became really good friends. He made me producer of the show and then eventually gave me the opportunity to do demo when they needed Co-Presenter. (Some changes had come about at Choice FM) so Presented demo and then the news was out in press before I knew I’d got the job as Co-Presenter on his Sunday morning show.
Laurelle who is my other bridesmaid was the new assistant. She is an amazing girl and we had a brilliant time working as team. Meanwhile Dave and I had decided to make a go of things. Because we wanted to keep things professional we didn’t tell anybody for about the first 5 months. We told Laurelle after about a year we waited till after the show was moved to midnight.
So after many conversations, many gigs and many shows, our love grew for each other.
It was hard at first because Dave is very reserved and can be quite stubborn at times. What stood out was his character, his integrity and he had so many good qualities. He was a gentleman and always looked out for me.
